Hamilton’s Return to Pro-Cycling On Hold?

Tyler_Hamilton.jpg

Fans of Tyler Hamilton will be frustrated to learn that his suspension from pro-cycling, which is scheduled to end on September 22nd, could be extended if his alleged involvement in Operation Puerto is proven. Bicycling.com says the Spanish newspaper, El Pais, has reported that “evidence of apparent drug abuse by Hamilton has been well documented.” Allegations in the article include a fax to Hamilton’s wife, from Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes, detailing various payments, as well as a training diary that describes the use of EPO, anabolic steroids, and blood doping. Pat McQuaid, President of the International Cycling Union, said that "If the allegations made in the media are correct I would think new disciplinary action would be in store. A second offense could land Hamilton a lifetime ban. Hamilton, on his website has denied these accusations, and has said that he was never treated by Dr. Fuentes. We’re hoping for the best since we thought that Hamilton’s return could make for a little late-season excitement if he were to race this year.

Trek Unveils ’07 Line

madonessl.jpg

Bicycling.com recently took a sneak peak at Trek’s ’07 lineup. Among the new offerings are a track bike, a couple of cyclo-cross bikes, and a handful of Project One paint schemes. Bontrager will also serve up several new designs, including their first full carbon wheel set that’s weighs in about 140g less than a set of feathery alloys. Also from Bontrager is a new 31.8 boron based clamp that comes in at just 166g. Of course no Trek news would be complete without something on the Madone, so for ’07 buyers can expect to see the 6.9 SSL with a carbon bottom bracket that will have the frame coming in at about 880g, carbon XXX Lite carbon clinchers, a carbon bar, and carbon saddle.
