Investigators from the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) and Italian Cycling Federation have decided to discontinue their doping against Ivan Basso. While the news essentially clears the way for Basso to start racing again, the case will still remain active, which will allow investigators reopen it should additional evidence become available. In a clear indication that Basso is ready to get back to racing, his lawyer said the rider planned to meet with CSC to discuss Basso’s future with the team following his July suspension. Basso is under contract with CSC until 2008.
