Fans of Ivan Basso will be disappointed to learn that he will not compete in the Tour of Lombardy (ToL) this weekend despite receiving a green-light to race again from the Italian Olympic Committee. According to Basso, the decision not to race was made by team manger Bjanrne Riis, who said that since the rider's future with CSC was unclear, the team did not see any reason to let him participate in the ToL. With that news in hand, Basso said that he would spend the weekend training on roads around his house. Basso’s contract with CSC lasts through 2008, but rumors are flying that he could move to another team next season – some are even suggesting Discovery. Though it seems unclear to us how that will play out with other riders on Discovery who are also eager to sit center podium in Paris next July. The one sure thing about this story is that its not over yet…stay tuned.
