Interbike: Terry Shows of Two New Saddles

Terry_Butterfly_Carbon.jpg

Terry, known for producing bikes and clothing specifically designed for women, kept things pretty static in the bike segment this year. They did however come to Interbike with a pair of new saddles – the Butterfly Carbon for women, and the Fly Carbon for men.

The Butterfly Carbon will feature carbon rails, and will be available in two color schemes – white leather with silver carbon or black leather with white carbon. The saddle will have a length of 10.3”, a width of 6.1”, and will weigh in at f 218g. The male version of the saddle – the Fly Carbon – will share many of the same design features as the Butterfly including carbon rails, coloring, and overall appearance. The main difference will lie in saddle dimensions. Designed around male proportions, the Fly will be 0.6” longer and narrower with a length of 10.9” and a width of 5.5”. The weight of the Fly Carbon will actually be about 17g lighter than the Butterfly due to the reduced seat width. The two saddles are priced similarly at $140 retail.

Topeak’s New Allay Saddle

IMG_1595.JPG

In recent years, the health of bicycle seating has become a major focus of the industry. Manufactures have tried a variety of approaches that include flattening the center of the seat, to outright removing it - as Specialized has with its BG comfort line. This coming year, Topeak will be throwing its hat into the saddle-ring, with the release of its new Allay line which will feature an AirSpan mesh that conforms to a riders body to give a “Compression Free Zone that helps to eliminate numbness and pain”. The saddle also includes “Zer o Side Wall”, which is designed to help avoid chafing, and prevent thigh rash. Finally, like other saddles, the Alley offers pelvic bone support via their “Big Sit Bone Comfort Zone”. The Allay will be available in five different models that range from the 210g race inspired Competition, to the more touring focused 430g Nomad (which even includes shock absorbers).
